"Coming out" with The Guardian
I love reading the Guardian. Its a great newspaper, and one of the few routines I stick to is trying to read it in the morning before work. I also like to have it lying around my desk at work. In the new job that's because its often relevant to development work...take a look at this as a great example. Now in my last job...it really was not the done thing to be seen with The Guardian. You had to hide it under other things (preferably the FT) as if were some sort of embarrassing porn mag; it simply wasn't the done thing to read it and it seriously called into question your credibility as a business adviser. The Telegraph was "de rigueur" and the Mail for a bit of light entertainment...The Tories were very much seen as "our party" as one client said to me at an Institute Of Directors networking do.
And of course if I ever inadvertently let the Bible onto the desk and got caught reading a quick snatch at lunch time as I prepared for a sermon or talk that would just mark me down as a complete nutter ...
Its little things that make all the difference after all ...reading the Guardian without feeling subversive, not wearing a suit and tie ....such liberation!!

Good to read this - keep it up!
Hoping that before too long I won't be the only one adding comments!
This is interesting, we still tease each other over what newspapers we read.
I know I am guilty of this when I 'attack' the Daily Mail readers in the office for their choice as they read a front page article on Diana, and conspiracy theories for the 4000 consecutive day.
